A Note from the General Manager

March 17th, 2020 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

First and foremost I want to thank all of our sponsors, competitors, fans, and workers for their support and participation in what turned out to be an extremely difficult night on Saturday March 14th, 2020. There was a tremendous outpouring of excitement on Saturday night from everyone at the track. With a great field of cars and a crowd of excited fans, everyone was looking forward to the race ahead. Needless to say when Executive Order 117 was posted online, it became obvious that a continuance of our activities at Hickory Motor Speedway would not be in compliance with the Governor’s order. At this point we made the decision to follow the Executive Order and shut down operations immediately. It was extremely disappointing that the Governor’s office provided no point of contact that would allow us to get further clarity on finishing the event.

The tremendous outpouring of support that was shown to myself and Hickory Motor Speedway from our fans and competitors has been truly comforting at a time when I felt we had disappointed everyone here. Let’s be honest, it is obvious that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a serious situation in the entire world and although we may or may not personally contract it, we need to be in prayer for those who have, especially the families of loved ones that have been lost to this virus. At this point, we need to move forward and help to become a part of the solution in ending this dreadful virus. If we work together I believe we will be racing sooner than later and those days will be bright and exciting at Hickory Motor Speedway. All tickets and pit passes will be honored at our next event. I hope we can all keep a smile on our face and look forward to some great racing ahead. Until then, the track will operate on a normal basis with testing, fuel sales and tire sales if needed. We would ask that you call and schedule your practice time, so we can concur with all recommendations for gatherings at this time.
Sincerely,
Kevin Piercy General Manager Hickory Motor Speedway
