Josh Kossek and Austin McDaniel split Heritage Finance Late Model Twin 40s

6/19/2021 - Not only did the temperatures heat up in the Catawba Valley on Saturday night, so did the racing action at Hickory Motor Speedway with a full slate of NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series excitement.

Leading off the night's racing would be the Heritage Finance Late Models for the first of their twin 40 lap features. Ryan Millington in the #15 would pace qualifying and start from the top spot with Josh Kossek in the #44 to his outside. Row two would see Austin McDaniel in the #12 and Kevin Leicht in the #25 door to door for the start. Millington and Kossek would go door to door into turn one and then remain equal down the backstretch. Kossek would use the high side to make the pass and take the lead. Leicht would move around McDaniel to take the third position. The halfway point would see Kossek, Millington, Leicht, McDaniel, and Charlie Watson in the #9 as the top five. Shane Canipe in the #1 and J.P. Dyar in the #21 would have a spirited battle for position until lap 25 when Canipe would pull to the pits. Leicht would drive to the bumper of Millington and pressure him for the position. Kossek would prove too strong and drive on to take the win. Millington would hold on to 2nd with Leicht taking 3rd. McDaniel would finish 4th and Watson would round out the top five in 5th.

Next up would see the Paramount Auto Group Limited Late Models for their 35 lap feature. Bryson Ruff in the #24 would top time trials and start from the pole position with Mason Maggio in the #12 to his outside. Katie Hettinger in the #71 and Max Price in the #22 would make up row two for the start. Ruff and Maggio would barrel down into turn one side by side. Ruff would nose ahead to an early lead down the backstretch. As the cars would roll in to turn three the caution would fly as the #32 of Josh Stark would spin down the backstretch. Ruff and Maggio would make up row one for the restart. Ruff would nose ahead on the start, but Maggio would look to his inside on lap two. Maggio would take the top spot while Hettinger would try to make it a three car race for the top spot. The halfway point would see Maggio, Ruff, Hettinger, Price, and Stark as the top five. Hettinger would drive to Ruff's bumper and begin to challenge for the second spot. Hettinger would make the pass on lap 29 and hope to chase down the leader, Maggio. The lead would prove to be insurmountable as Maggio would drive to the win. Hettinger would take 2nd with Ruff finishing 3rd. Price would finish 4th and Stark would battle back from the spin to take 5th.

The Renegades would be next to hit the track for 20 action packed laps. Robbie Hollifield in the #51 would pace qualifying and start from the top spot with Spencer Dickinson in the #6 to his outside. Row two would see Justin Austin in the #1 and Kyle Boice in the #73 door to door for the start. Hollifield would pull to the early lead with Dickinson and Austin close in tow. David Hasson in the #83 would move to fourth around Boice. Brandon Hasson in the #82 would also battle Boice for position. Boice would battle back around Brandon Hasson to retake fourth. The caution would fly on lap 16 when Dickinson would spin on the backstretch. The restart would see Hollifield and Austin door to door for the green flag. Hollifield would move to the lead but contact with Austin would send him spinning in turn three. Austin would also start from the rear due to the contact. Boice and Brandon Hasson would bring the field to the green flag. Boice would move to the front and drive to the win. Austin would drive back to finish 2nd with Hollifield driving back to 3rd. Dickinson would finish 4th and Brandon Hasson would take 5th.

Rolling off next would be the Heritage Finance Street Stocks for their 30 lap feature. Cody DeMarmels in the #12 would top qualifying and start from the pole position with Jesse Clark in the #5 to his outside. Kevin Eby in the #03 and Marshall Sutton in the #64 would make up row two for the start. DeMarmels and Clark would duel for the lead with DeMarmels nosing ahead early in the battle. DeMarmels and Clark would stay nose to tail for the first half of the race. The halfway point would see DeMarmels, Clark, Eby, Sutton, and Derek Fowler in the #31 as the top five. Lap 16 would see Clark make the move and get around DeMarmels for the top spot. Clark would drive on to the win. DeMarmels would finish 2nd and Eby would take 3rd. Sutton would finish 4th and Fowler would bring it home in 5th.  

The Super Trucks would be next to hit the track for 35 laps of bumper to bumper action. Charlie Watson in the #9 would pace qualifying and start from the top spot with Travis Baity in the #70 to his outside. Row two would see Joey Shuryan in the #30 and Ricky Dennie in the #6 door to door for the start. Watson would move to the lead with Baity giving chase in second. Dennie would move to third with Shuryan and the #51 of Allen Huffman battling for fourth. The halfway point would see Watson, Baity, Dennie, Huffman, and the #17 of Duane Cook as the top five. Lap 26 would see the caution fly as Shuryan would spin coming off of turn four. The restart would see Watson and Baity side by side for the start. Watson would move quickly back to the lead with Baity facing a challenge from Dennie   for position. Watson would drive on to the win. Baity would finish 2nd with Dennie taking 3rd. Huffman would come home in 4th and Cook would grab 5th.

Closing out the night's action would be the second 40 lap feature for the Heritage Finance Late Models. After the 8 car invert, Jessie Cann in the #19 and Blaine Perkins in the #21 would make up the front row for the green flag. Row two would be made up of Matthew Gould in the #27 and Charlie Watson in the #9. Cann and Perkins would battle door to door for the top spot. Perkins would move to the front after several laps of hard racing, but then face challenge from Watson. Watson would wrestle the spot away only to face a new challenge from Austin McDaniel in the #12. McDaniel would move to the lead on lap 9. The halfway point would see McDaniel, Kevin Leicht in the #25, Watson, Gould, and the #44 of Josh Kossek as the top five. Watson would face constant pressure from Gould for position. Lap 30 would see Gould make the pass on Watson for third. The 2 time Hickory Motor Speedway Track Champion McDaniel would return to glory and drive on to take the win. Leicht would finish 2nd and Gould would take 3rd. Watson would finish 4th and race one winner Kossek would take 5th.

The NAAPWS will be back in action next week with another great night of racing excitement.  

The Monster Trucks invade the famed 3/8 mile oval July 2nd and 3rd for two big action packed nights of fan pleasing entertainment.
