“ Millington Sweeps Twins, Ruff Wins Again”

May 22, 2021 - Saturday night would see the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series return to action at America's Most Famous Short Track, Hickory Motor Speedway, with a full slate of racing action.

Leading off the evening's festivities would be the Heritage Finance Late Models with the first of their twin 40 lap features. Ryan Millington in the #15 would pace qualifying and start from pole position with Isabella Robusto in the #55 to his outside. Landon Huffman in the #21 and Josh Kossek in the #44 would make up row two for the start. Millington would move quickly to the lead with Huffman challenging Robusto for second. Huffman would take the spot as they would line up to chase down the leader, Millington. The halfway point would see Millington, Huffman, Robusto, Charlie Watson in the #9, and Rajah Caruth in the #6 as the top five. Lap 30 would see Caruth move around Watson for fourth. With ten laps to go Huffman would drive to within a car length of the leader Millington. Millington would prove too strong and take the win. Huffman would finish 2nd and Robusto would take 3rd. Caruth would finish 4th with Watson taking 5th.

The Paramount Auto Group Limited Late Models would roll off next for their 35 lap feature. Bryson Ruff in the #24 would pace qualifying and start from the top spot with Max Price in the #22 to his outside. Row two would see Casey Pierce in the #18 and Mason Maggio in the #12 side by side for the green flag. Price and Ruff would go door to door for several laps until Price would move into the lead on lap 3. Maggio and Pierce would battle several laps for third before Maggio would nose ahead for the spot. Lap 18 would see the #71 of Katie Hettinger move by Pierce for fourth. Ruff would make the move for the top spot and take the lead from Price on lap 29. Ruff would go on to take the win. Price would finish 2nd and Maggio would take 3rd. Hettinger would grab 4th with Pierce taking 5th.

The 4-Cylinders would be the next to hit the track for their 15 lap feature. Cody Combs in the #9 would pace qualifying and start from pole position with Robert Trivette in the #11 to his outside. Trivette would take the lead with Combs close in his path. Lap 12 would see Combs move around Trivette for the top spot. Combs would hang on to take the win with Trivette grabbing 2nd.

The Heritage Finance Street Stocks would roar to life next for their 30 lap feature. Cody DeMarmels in the #12 would pace qualifying and start from the top spot with Jesse Clark in the #5 to his outside. Row two would see Ethan Johnson in the #2 and Derek Fowler in the #31 side by side for the green flag. DeMarmels would drive to the early lead with Johnson looking under Clark for second. Clark would keep the position and look to run down the leader, DeMarmels. Lap 10 would see Marshall Sutton in the #64 move to fifth, passing Jonathon Smith in the #16. The caution would fly on lap 14 as smoke would billow out from underneath Clark's second place running machine. Clark would pull to the pits and end his night early. After a lengthy caution for cleanup, DeMarmels and Johnson would bring the field back to the green flag. DeMarmels would move to the lead and bring Fowler with him to second place. Sutton would move around Johnson for third on lap 24. DeMarmels would face a late challenge by Fowler but would hang on for the win. Fowler would take 2nd and Sutton would finish 3rd. Johnson would finish 4th and Smith would grab 5th after a spirited battle with #03 of Kevin Eby.

Next up would see the Renegades hit the track for their 20 lap battle. Robbie Hollifield in the #51 would pace qualifying and start from pole position with Brandon Hasson in the #82 to his outside. Matthew Chambers in the #81 and David Hasson in the #83 would make up row two for the start. Hollifield would pull to the early lead. The #6 of Spencer Dickinson would start shotgun on the field, but roar up to second by lap 10. Father and son would battle for third place between Brandon and David Hasson. Hollifield would drive on to take the win. Dickinson would close the gap and have to settle for 2nd with Brandon Hasson taking 3rd. David Hasson would finish 4th and Chambers would grab 5th.

Closing out the night's events would be the Heritage Finance Late Models for the second of their 40 lap features. After an 8 car invert from the finishing order of race one, Jessie Cann in the #19 and Bryson Dennis in the #6 would make up the front row for the green flag. Row two would see Josh Kossek in the #44 and Charlie Watson in the #9 side by side for the start. Dennis would nose ahead for the lead with Cann facing a challenge from Kossek. Kossek would take the position and look to move into the lead. Lap 4 would see Kossek move to the top spot around Dennis. Rajah Caruth in the #6 would move to 2nd and give chase to the leader, Kossek. The caution would fly on lap 8 for a three car incident involving the #21 of Landon Huffman, the #55 of Isabella Robusto, and Cann. All would be able to continue. The restart would see Kossek and Caruth side by side for the restart. Kossek would move quickly to the lead. Ryan Millington in the #15 would come charging through the field and take the lead on lap 16. Caruth would move up to second and bring Huffman to third. Millington would go on take the win, sweeping the twin features on the night. Caruth would finish 2nd with Huffman grabbing 3rd. Kossek would finish 4th and Robusto would take 5th.

The NAAPWS will be back in action for the next two weeks with great racing action each week.  

June 12th will see the FASS Big Rig series roll into town with the always exciting Big Rig Racing.
