" Rajah Caruth doubles up in Heritage Finance Late Model Twin 40 lap features"

April 17th, 2021 - The NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series returned to action on Saturday night with an amazing slate of racing at Hickory Motor Speedway.

Leading off the night would be the Heritage Finance Street Stocks with the first of their twin features on the night. Qualifying would see Mark Whitten in the #12 pace the action and start from the point with Derek Fowler in the #31 to his outside. Row two would be made up of Marlin Yoder in the #08 and Jonathon Smith in the   #16. Whitten would pull to the early lead with Fowler applying pressure. Lap 5 would see Fowler make the pass for the top spot and move Whitten to second. Marshall Sutton in the #64 and Jesse Clark in the #5 would do battle side by side from the drop of the green flag with neither giving an inch. Smith would look to move inside Whitten on lap 8. Contact between the two would send Smith sideways down the front stretch taking out several safety cones in the process. Smith would make a remarkable save in the car as he would power slide all the way through turns one and two. The debris would bring out the caution on lap 8. Fowler and Whitten would bring the field back to the green flag. Fowler would pull to the lead and bring Smith to second. The front duo would swap the lead until contact would see Fowler and Smith spin in turn four with Whitten getting hard into the wall trying to avoid the incident. Yoder and Sutton would bring the field back to the green flag. Yoder would quickly move to the lead with Sutton and Clark close behind. Fowler would spin bringing out the caution before another lap was completed. Yoder and Sutton would pace the field back to the flag. Another crash in turns three and four would see multiple cars damaged in the melee. The #17 of DJ Hamby, the #48 of Trey Buff and Fowler would all end up in the pits for repairs. Fowler and Buff would return to action on the track. Yoder and Sutton would bring the field back to the restart. Yoder would move back to the top spot. Lap 16 would see Clark move around Sutton for second. Yoder would hang on and drive to the win. Clark would finish 2nd with Sutton taking 3rd. Zach Hale in the #7 would finish 4th and Fowler would fight back to 5th.

The Heritage Finance Late Models would roll off next for the first of their twin 40 lap features. The front row would see Isabella Robusto in the #55 and Mitch Walker in the #15W leading the field to the green flag. Chase Dixon in the #07 and Zack Clifton in the #81 would make up row two. Robusto and Walker would go door to door for the first four laps until Robusto would move to the lead. Lap 17 would see Dixon nose under Walker for second. Dixon would give chase to the leader Robusto, reaching her rear bumper with ten laps to go. As the battle raged for the lead Walker would make it a three wide affair. Lap 33 would see the caution fly as Dixon would spin after contact in the three way battle for the top spot. The restart would see Rajah Caruth in the #6 and Clifton bringing the field to the green flag as Robusto would have mechanical issues and Walker would be penalized to the rear after the incident that brought out the caution. Caruth would pull to the lead as Josh Kossek in the #44 would move to third to do battle with the leaders. Caruth would drive on to the win. Clifton would take 2nd while Kossek would grab 3rd. Hayden Woods in the #6 would take 4th and Gracie Trotter in the #2 would finish 5th.

Hitting the track next would be the 4-Cylinders for the first of their twin features. Curtis Pardue in the #17 would set fast time and qualifying and start from the pole position with Cody Combs in the #9 to his outside. Pardue would pull to the lead with Combs and Trivette giving chase. Lap 9 would see Combs make the pass on Pardue for the top spot. Combs would drive on to take the win. Pardue would finish 2nd with Trivette finishing 3rd.

The Paramount Auto Group Limited Late Models would roll of next for 50 laps in Round 3 of the Paramount Kia ‘BIG 10' Racing Challenge. The top spot in qualifying would be taken by Charlie Watson in the #9 with Mason Maggio in the #12 starting to his outside. Row two would be made up of Katie Hettinger in the #71 and Bryson Ruff in the #24. Watson would move to the lead with Maggio giving chase. Ruff and Hettinger would go door to door for several laps until Ruff would take the third position. Lap 18 would see Ruff drive to the bumper of Maggio for the second place battle. Ruff would make the move around Maggio for second on lap 23. Hettinger would pressure Maggio for the third spot starting on lap 25. The caution would fly on lap 27 as the leader Watson would roll to a stop on the backstretch. Watson would rejoin the rear of the field under caution. Ruff and Maggio would pace the field back to the green flag with Hettinger and the #32 of Josh Stark making up row two. Ruff would pull to the lead with Maggio close behind. Watson would restart twelfth, but make it back to the top five by lap 35. Lap 43 would see Watson make it by Stark for 3rd. Watson would move around Maggio for second on lap 45. Ruff's lead would prove insurmountable as he would drive on to the win. Watson would climb all the way back to 2nd with Maggio finishing 3rd. Stark would fight off a furious battle by Akinori Ogata in the #14 to take 4th while Ogata would finish 5th.

Rolling off next would be the Renegades for their 20 lap slugfest. Spencer Dickinson in the #6 would start from the point position with Robbie Hollifield in the #51 to his outside. David Hasson in the #83 and Robert DiVanna in the #71 would start door to door in row two. Dickinson would pull to the lead and Hasson would follow to second, moving around Hollifield. Lap 3 would see Hasson move to the lead getting around Dickinson. Hollifield would move around Dickinson for second. Hasson would drive on to the win. Dickinson and Hollifield would battle side by side off of turn four with Dickinson taking 2nd and Hollifield finishing 3rd. Robert DiVanna in the #71 would finish 4th while Matthew Chambers in the #81 would take 5th.

The Heritage Finance Street Stocks would hit the track next for race two of their twin features. The 8 car invert would see Ethan Johnson in the #2 and John Clark in the #5X in row one for the start. Trey Buff in the #48 and Derek Fowler in the #31 would start in row two. Johnson would move to the early lead with Buff giving chase in second. Sutton would move around Buff for second and look to run down the leader Johnson. Jesse Clark in the #5 would move to third with ten laps to go. Johnson would drive on to take the win. Clark would take 2nd with Sutton finishing 3rd. Jonathon Smith in the #16 would finish 4th and Fowler would come home 5th.

The Heritage Finance Late Models would thunder back to the track to finish their doubleheader night. After the 7 car invert from race one, Chase Dixon in the #07 and Bob Saville   in the #8 would make up row one. Row two would see Lavarr Scott in the #34 and Gracie Trotter in the #2 side by side for the start. After contact between the front row on the initial start the field would restart with Scott and Trotter on the front row and Hayden Woods in the #6 and Josh Kossek in the #44 making up row two. Trotter would pull to the lead and bring Kossek with her to second. Rajah Caruth in the #6 would make the charge and take second from Kossek on lap 7. Scott would move around Kossek for third and bring his teammate Isabella Robusto in the #55 with him to 4th. The caution would fly on lap 15 as Kossek's car would come to a stop in turn two. The restart would see Trotter and Caruth leading the field to the green flag. Caruth would make the move to the top spot with Trotter giving chase. Trotter would look under Caruth for the top spot with ten laps to go. A fierce battle would begin, however Trotters car would get loose in Turn One and make a great save. Caruth would win the battle and double up with his second win on the night. Trotter would have to settle for 2nd with Robusto finishing 3rd. Scott would finish 4th and Saville would take 5th.

The 4-Cylinders would finish out the night with the second of their twin features. Robert Trivette in the #11 would start from the top spot with Curtis Pardue in the #17 to his outside. Trivette would move to the lead and bring Cody Combs in the #9 with him to second. Lap 5 would see Combs and Trivette side by side for several laps for the top spot. Combs would make the pass for the lead on lap 9. Combs would drive on to the win. Trivette would finish 2nd with Pardue taking 3rd.

Hickory Motor Speedway is off next week but returns to action in two weeks as the NAAPWS roars back to action with a full slate of action on May 1st and again on May 8th.

May 14th and 15th will see the always exciting family affair, Tour of Destruction back in town for a two night affair to accommodate the 50% capacity Covid restrictions.
