" Diaz, Millington, Leadbetter and Honeyman Come Home Winners in Calico 2021 FALL BRAWL "

10/6/21 - After a successful 2021 racing season, Hickory Motor Speedway would finish out the year with the running of the Calico Coatings “FALL BRAWL” presented by Puryear Tank Lines.

Leading off the show would be 30 laps of action for the Heritage Finance Street Stocks. The top five to take the green flag would be Drew Cox in the #21, Gary Ledbetter in the #48, Jesse Clark in the #5, Kevin Eby in the #03, and Derek Fowler in the #31. Ledbetter would use the high line to pull to the early lead with Cox giving chase. Eby would follow Ledbetters lead to move around Clark for third. However, Clark would quickly make the move back around Eby for third. Clark would begin to chase down Cox for second spot. The battle for fifth would be spirited with Mark Johnson in the #29 looking to take the spot from Fowler. Clark would move past Cox for second as the field passed the halfway point. Ledbetter would prove too strong, as he would hold off a charging Clark to take the win. Clark would have to settle for 2nd and Cox would finish 3rd. Eby would take 4th as Mark Johnson would win the battle for 5th.

Next up would be the Paramount Auto Group Limited Late Models doing battle for 100 feature laps. The entire field would set a blistering pace during qualifying with the top eight cars breaking the track record on new tires. The top five starters would be Charlie Watson in the #9, Akinori Ogata in the #14, Mason Ludwig in the #12, Ryan Millington in the #15, and Katie Hettinger in the #71. Watson would move quickly to the lead, however Ogata would pressure him for the top spot. Third place would take a handful of laps to shake out with Millington taking the spot with Ludwig settling into fourth. Millington would pressure Ogata for the second position and after several laps Millington would make the pass for position and Ludwig would follow for third. Michael Bumgarner in the #97 would also make the move to the low side of Ogata for the position. As they were working around the #25 of Ricky Parker contact would send him spinning and collect Hettinger in the incident. Everyone would be able to continue with Watson and Millington bringing the field back to the green flag. The battle for the lead would be a story of which lane would be faster, the low lane or the high lane. Neither Watson or Millington would give an inch and the battle would stay door to door until the caution would fly on lap 27 for Hettinger as her car would come to a stop in turn two. Millington and Watson would once again lead the field back to the green flag. Millington and Watson would be right back to where they left off, side by side for the top spot. Bumgarner and Ludwig would pressure the front runners from the third and fourth positions. The caution would fly on lap 37 as 2021 Limited Late Model Champion Max Price in the #22 and Ogata would make contact and spin in turn two. Millington and Watson would remain back in the front for the restart. Millington would move to the front, but Watson would quickly make it two wide for the top spot. A multiple car spin would bring out the caution once again. Watson and Millington would bring the field back to the green flag. Millington would nose ahead for the lead but Watson would continue to contest for the top spot. Lap 55 would see Watson move around Millington and take the lead. The caution would fly again as the #32 of Nick Waycaster would spin coming out of turn four. Watson and Millington would lead the field back to the green flag. Millington would take the top spot after several laps side by side with Watson. Watson would look back to the inside as the battle for the top spot would intensify. Ludwig would run one car length behind the battle for the lead, waiting for his opportunity to lead. Watson would move back into the lead with 25 laps to go. The battle for fourth would pick up with Kyle Barnes in the #00 looking to move around Bumgarner. Ludwig would pressure Millington for second and take the position. Barnes would take the fourth position from Bumgarner and bring the #25 of Graham Hollar with him to fifth. The #42 of Zach Wells would come to a stop in turn three and bring out the caution on lap 87. Watson and Ludwig would again lead the field to the green. The battle for the lead would be a three way battle as the caution would fly for a multiple car incident in turn four on lap 90. The restart would see Ludwig and Watson bringing the field back for another restart. Three quick cautions would fly on subsequent restarts setting up a restart with Ludwig and Watson pacing the field with ten laps to go. Watson would move to the top spot and bring Millington to second with Ludwig and Bumgarner third and fourth. The battle for third would see Ludwig, Bumgarner, and the #17 of Skyler Chaney go three wide for the spot. The caution would come out as Waycaster would spin with five laps to go. Watson and Millington would bring the field back to the green flag. Millington would use the high side to move to the lead and drive on to take the checkered flag and the win. Watson would finish 2nd with Ludwig grabbing 3rd. Chaney and Bumgarner would round out the top five with 4th and 5th respectively.

The Carolina Pro Late Models would roll off next for their 100 lap feature. The top five starters would be Leland Honeyman Jr in the #4, Jake Crum in the #12, Nick Loden in the #43, Katie Hettinger in the #71, and Eric Nash in the #13. Crum would use the high line to take the early lead. Hettinger would move around Loden for third. Lap five would see Honeyman muscle around Crum for the top spot. Loden would pressure Hettinger for third as she would look to make the move on Crum for second. The caution would fly on lap 35 as Loden's car would come to a stop on the front stretch with smoke billowing out of the exhaust pipe. The Carolina Pro Late Models point leader would be done for the night. The restart would see Honeyman and Crum side by side for the green with Hettinger and Nash behind in row two. After a lengthy side by side battle Honeyman would move back to the lead. Lap 42 would see the caution fly as the #21 of Jacob Perry would roll to a stop in turn two. Honeyman and Crum would pace the field back to the restart. Crum would take the lead, but Honeyman would quickly retake the top spot. Hettinger would move around Crum for second, However Hettinger would see Crum battle back to reclaim the spot. Honeyman would increase the lead as the battle for second would heat up. Hettinger would look under Crum for second once again, but contact would see her spin in turn three. Honeyman and Crum would bring the field to the green. Honeyman would move quickly to the lead. Hettinger would come back through the field, moving around Nash for third with 25 laps to go. Hettinger would clear Crum for second with 15 laps to go. Honeyman would prove too strong and drive on to take the win. Hettinger would take a hard fought 2nd with Crum grabbing 3rd. Nash would take 4th and Landon Devaughn in the #18 would take 5th.

Finishing out the Calico Coatings “FALL BRAWL” presented by Puryear Tank Lines would be the Heritage Finance Late Models for their 200 lap feature. The top five for the event would be Doug Barnes in the #88, Mitch Walker in the #15, Ryan Millington in the #15m, Jacob Heafner in the #95, and Mason Diaz in the #24. Doug Barnes would move to the early lead with Walker giving chase. Heafner would ride comfortably in third while Justin Johnson in the #44 would move up to fourth. Millington would lose several positions and appear to be saving tires for the endurance race. The caution would fly on lap 17 as the #77 of Logan Jones would come to a stop in turn three. Doug Barnes and Walker would lead the field back to the restart. Doug Barnes would move back to the top spot with Walker holding second. Diaz would challenge Johnson for fourth and take the spot on lap 43. Taylor Satterfield in the # 40 would follow Diaz around Johnson to move into the top five. Lap 48 would see the caution fly as the #12 of Annabeth Barnes-Crum would roll to a stop in turn four. Doug Barnes and Walker would pace the field back to green flag. Walker would move to the top spot, using the high line to his advantage. Doug Barnes would look under Walker and make the pass for the lead on lap 65. Walker would then see a challenge from Heafner and Diaz for second. The caution would fly on lap 93 as the #41 of Whitney Meggs would come to a stop in turn three. This caution would lead into the halfway break. All cars would come to the pits to allow for two new tires and any approved adjustments in a 10 minute break. The top five rolling off after the halfway break would be Doug Barnes, Walker, Heafner, Diaz, and Carson Kvapil in the #8. Doug Barnes would move to the top spot and bring Heafner and Diaz with him around Walker for second and third. A multiple car incident would see the caution fly on lap 107 as Jeff Sparks in the #7, Isabella Robusto in the #55, Trent Barnes in the #1, and Chase Janes in the #47 were all collected in the incident. The restart would see Doug Barnes and Heafner door to door for the green flag. Neither driver would give an inch and lead to what would be a race changing incident. As Barnes and Heafner would dive into turn one on lap 120 contact would send them both hard into the turn one wall, ending the evening for both drivers. Walker and Diaz would lead the field to the restart. Diaz would use the high line to move to the lead. Third through sixth would see a feverish battle between Millington, the #6 of Mike Darne, Satterfield, Johnson and the #15 of Bryson Dennis mixing it up in the front. Millington would move to third and look to chase down the leaders. Kvapil would challenge Millington for third with twenty laps to go. Kvapil would take the spot and challenge Walker for second in the closing laps. Diaz would drive on to take the win, the huge trophy, and the large payday for $6,000! Walker would win the duel with Kvapil to finish 2nd and Kvapil would take 3rd. Millington would cap off a good night with 4th, after winning the Limited race, and Satterfield would battle back for a 5th place finish.

The Calico Coatings FALL BRAWL presented by Puryear Tank Lines would finish the 2021 season at America's Most Famous Short Track with only the Championship Banquet Remaining on December 4th
