McDaniel wins the first ZLOOP Challenge Series Race at Hickory Motor Speedway

NEWTON, NC (March 9, 2013) It was a brisk Saturday Night at Hickory Motor Speedway for the season opener, but the action was hot.

The #21 of Todd Harrington took the pole and led the K & P Construction 4-Cylinders to the first green flag of the 2013 Season at Hickory Motor Speedway. Harrington pulled out to an early lead followed by the #3 of Donnie Harmon, the #10 of Tim Canipe and a battle for fourth between the #9 of Randy Canipe and the #51 of Nathaniel Kanupp. Caution fell on lap 16 for a spin by the 4 th place competitor of Randy Canipe. On the restart Harrington assumed the lead followed by Tim Canipe who moved into second. Harmon moved past Canipe on lap 22 with the #98 Chase Pollard coasting to the bottom of the track on lap 23. The race stayed green as the Pollard coasted into pits. The finishing order for the K & P Construction 4-Cylinders would be Harrington, Harmon, T. Canipe , Kanupp and R. Canipe rounding out the top 5.

The #00 of Shane Lee captured the 1 st pole of the Parmount Kia Limited Late Models. It was door to door for several laps between Lee and the #75 of Landon Huffman followed closely by the #9 of Charlie Watson. There were multiple cars battling for fourth with the #8 of Kaleb Pressley, #15 of Sheflon Clay and the #18 of Casey Pierce sorting it out. Pressley began working Watson for 3 rd at lap 14, eventually taking the position followed by Clay, which would move Watson to 5 th . The #51 of Jeremy Pelfrey was coming thru the field after a mishap in qualifying when the #37 of Chris Phipps spun on lap 25 setting up a 10 lap dash for the victory. On the restart Lee resumed the lead and collected the win followed by Huffman, Pressley, Clay and Watson.

The # 15 of David Werner would bring the Street Stocks to the green flag and take the early lead followed closely by the #64 of Marshall Sutton and the #16 of Jonathon Smith. Sutton would begin to pressure Werner early in the race but Werner would continue to lead. The #16 of Smith began smoking on lap 14. At the restart it was Werner, Sutton, the #03 of Kevin Eby, the #92 of Jason Stanley and the #33 of Mark Whitten. On Lap 15, Stanley would clip the tire on the inside wall after contact with another competitor and that would end his night. Lap 17 brought out the caution for a spin by the #69 of Trey Buff. At the green Werner and Sutton would go door to door with Eby in 3 rd , the #99 of Roy Smith 4 th and the #2 of Larry Mosher 5 th . Sutton and Werner would touch on the backstretch which allowed Sutton to take the point. Werner would pit on lap 22. Sutton would take the win followed by Eby, Mosher, Roy Smith and Whitten.

The #25 of Matt Piercy would set the fast time at 15.09 and led the 22 car field to the green for the 1 st round of the ZLOOP Challenge 100-lap event. There were multiple battles throughout the field and cautions were plentiful with a great field of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bojangles Late Models. The #43 of Jesse LeFevers would take the early lead followed by Piercy, the #97 of Keith Bumgarner and the #88 of Josh Wright. Early contact between Wright and the # 18 of David Roberts would bring out a caution with multiple cars involved. Bumgarner would fall off of the pace late with handling problems. With 3 to go contact between the #12 of Austin McDaniel and LeFevers would send LeFevers into a slide, rekindling a rivalry that began in a championship run between the two in 2012. LeFevers made an incredible save, but McDaniels would take the win followed by LeFevers, Piercy, the #7 of Ashley Huffman and the #07 of Tyler Church.

The #2 of Charlie Neill led the field to the green flag in the WrenchRags Renegades race. Neill took the early lead with the #16 of Carroll McKinney, the #6 of Kenneth Roberts and the #4 of Greg Austin following closely. Neill went on the take the win followed by McKinney, Austin, Roberts and the #22 of Daniel Moore.
