Newton, NC...The North Carolina Motorsports Association (NCMA) presented Hickory Motor Speedway with a prestigious award at their recent 2008 NC Motorsports Industry Awards Dinner.

Hickory Motor Speedway was voted the recipient of the 2008 "Event Facilities Award", annually awarded to an outstanding race track in the state of NC. The award was sponsored by Extremeion-Anatech, and was presented by Ralph Sheheen, TNT and Speed TV on-air motorsports broadcaster.

Other finalists for the "Event Facilities Award" were Bowman-Gray Stadium, and Southern National Speedway.

NC Lt. Governor Beverly Perdue welcomed nearly 650 attendees, and Winston Kelley, Executive Director of the NASCAR Hall of Fame and MRN broadcaster, served as Master of Ceremonies.

Richard Petty was recognized with the "Achievement in Motorsports Tribute Award" for his strong positive impact on the motorsports industry in the state.

Also honored at the night's events was CVCC's "Bobby Isaac Motorsports Program", which received the award for best "Two-Year or Trade School Program".  This award was presented by Derek Chen, Director of Motorsports Development for the NC Department of Commerce.

In addition, the North Carolina Motorsports Foundation awarded $25,000 in scholarship grants distributed equally among five NC schools or training centers that have two-year or four-year education programs with a concentration in motorsports.  These awards will allow deserving students to pursue a career in the $5.9 billion motorsports industry in the state of North Carolina.
