" Landon Huffman wins the Bojangles Late Model race on Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet Night presented by Coca Cola "
July 14th , 2017
Neither rain, nor hail, nor a storm-related loss of power would stop these race cars from making their rounds on Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet Night presented by Coca Cola at Hickory Motor Speedway Saturday night.
Leading off the night's racing would be the Renegades and their 25 lap feature. Kyle DiVanna in the #71 would lead the field to the green flag. DiVanna would take the early lead but David Hasson in the #83 would make his way around and move to the top spot. Hasson would hold on for the win with Darren Dickinson in the #6 finishing 2nd. Justin Austin in the #1 would finish 3rd, Robert DiVanna in the #71D would finish 4th, and R.J. Williams in the #21 would round out the top five in 5th.
Up next would be Round #7 of the Paramount Kia 'Big 10' Chase for the Championship for the Paramount Auto Group Limited Late Models. Jeremy Pelfrey in the #51 would lead the field to the green flag with Monty Cox in the #21 to his outside. Pelfrey would take the early lead and stay there until lap 30 when Mack Little in the #16 would move to the top spot. Other battles would be going on throughout the field. Little would stay at the point for the remaining 20 laps and take the win. Pelfrey would hang on and finish 2nd and Mitch Walker in the #29 would come home in 3rd. Dylon Wilson in the #1 and Cox would round out the top 5.
Hitting the famed 3/8 mile oval next would be the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Bojangles Late Models for their feature event. Ty Gibbs in the #18 and Kres VanDyke in the #15 would roll off from the front row in the 75 lap battle. VanDyke would grab the early lead and set the early pace with Gibbs close behind. Caution at lap 58 would bunch the field with Landon Huffman in the #75 moving up to second to challenge VanDyke. The lead duo would start side by side but Huffman would use the high groove and move to the top spot. VanDyke would settle back in behind Huffman to make a charge at the leader but contact between himself and Ryan Millington in the #76 would send VanDyke spinning and to the garage for the rest of the night with damage to the front end and Millington to the rear of the field. On the restart Huffman would pull ahead of Gibbs and back to the front. Huffman would hold on to the top spot and drive on to grab the Checkered Flag. Stefan Parsons in the #98 would work his way into the battle for the win to finish 2nd. Charlie Watson in the #9 would overcome a late pit stop to come home in 3rd. Millington and Gibbs would round out the top 5.
The One Design Super Trucks would roar to life next for their 35 lap feature. Sheflon Clay in the #15 would lead the field to the initial green flag but would have a mechanical issue that would sideline him for the rest of the night and necessitate a total restart. Tyler Dayton in the #36 would bring the field to the green flag but Allen Huffman in the #51 would use the high line and take the early lead. Dayton would bide his time and on a restart at lap 24 would make his way around a Huffman for the lead. Dayton would hold on for the win and capitalize on Clay's misfortune to make the One Design Super Truck series points battle close up. Huffman would finish 2nd and Joey Shuryan in the #30 would finish 3rd. Tony Black in the #05 and Charlie Neill in the #26 would round out the top 5.
Closing out the evening's program would be the Cosmo Motors Street Stocks. Kevin Eby in the #03 would lead the field to the green flag but a four way battle for the lead would result in Cody DeMarmels in the #18 taking the top spot with Mark Whitten in the #77 second, close in tow. DeMarmels would hold on for the win while Whitten would finish 2nd. A spirited battle for 3rd would see Marshall Sutton in the #64 take the spot. Eby in 4 th and Trey Buff in the #69 in 5 th would round out the top 5.
