Josh Berry Captures Fourth Win of 2014 Season

in Round Fifth the Paramount KIA "Big-10" Racing Challenge

(Newton, NC - - May 25, 2014) It was a Chamber of Commerce day for Woodforest Bank Night at the Races presented by The Hickory Record Saturday evening. Fans witnessed the No. 88 of Josh Berry pick up his fourth win of the season during the fifth round of the Paramount KIA Big-10 Race Challenge. Other feature winners included the Dexter Canipe Jr. (No. 5) Gold King Limited Late Models, Kevin Townsend (No. 10) Street Stocks, Spencer Boyd (No. 09) Super Trucks and Kenneth Roberts (No. 8) in the WrenchRags Renegades.

Paramount KIA Big-10 Race Challenge round-three winner, Josh Berry (No. 88) earned the pole position for the fifth round of the challenge event Saturday night and brought the field to the green flag. Several caution periods were observed during the early laps, putting the No. 7 of Ashley Huffman and the No. 12 of Austin McDaniel in position to battle for the lead following the lap-15 restart. As the race progressed, Berry worked his way back to the front of the field, picking up his fourth win of the season and left the No. 44 of Dillon Bassett, A. Huffman, the No. 75 of Landon Huffman and the No. 98 of Todd Gilliland to complete the top five.

The No. 18 of Casey Pierce earned the pole position for the 35-lap Gold King Limited Late Model event, but his time out front didn't last long as the No. 5 of Dexter Canipe Jr. took over the top spot during the first lap and pulled away from the field. A lap 26 caution allowed Pierce to catch Canipe Jr. and the two swapped paint as they battled for the lead on lap 29. The contact sent Pierce for a spin and collected the No. 77 of Travis Byrd. Following a red-flag period, Canipe Jr. continued out front, but received pressure from the No. 51 of Jeremy Pelfrey. Canipe Jr. went on to pick up the win, leaving Pelfrey, the No. 7 of Taylor Stricklin, the No. 1B of Trent Barnes and the No. 21 of Monty Cox to finish second through fifth, respectively.

Kevin Townsend (No. 10T) led the Street Stock division to the green flag for their 30-lap event and went on to lead every lap of the caution filled race. With just over five laps remaining, the No. 03 of Kevin Eby began to put pressure on Townsend for the lead, but the driver of the No. 10 powered on to Victory Lane, leaving Eby to settle for second. A tough battle for third broke out during the final laps between the No. 64 of Marshall Sutton and the No. 16 of Jonathan Smith, Sutton would prevail over Smith, allowing the two to finish third and fourth, respectively. The No. 31 of Wayne Edwards rounded out the top five.

The Super Trucks hit the track for a 35-lap race, with the No. 09 of Spencer Boyd in the lead position. The race was filled with a chain reaction of caution periods that started before the first lap was completed when the No. 29 of Rickie Dennie and the No. 13 of Dakota Slagel got together. Boyd was able to maintain his position out front and went on to pick up the checkered flag and was followed to the finish line by Slagel, the No. 9 of Lee Queen, No. 7 of Whitney Lail and the No. 15 of Mark Johnson.

The WrenchRags Renegades brought another great night of short-track racing excitment to an end. The No. 8 of Kenneth Roberts took the green flag from the pole position and remained out front for the caution-free event. Roberts collected the win and left the No. 6 of Darren Dickinson, No. 71 of Kyle Divanna, the No. 17 of Stephen Shore and the No. 77 of Shawn Hayes cross the line second through fifth.
