LeFevers wins Round 2 of the ZLOOP Challenge on GOLD KING Night at the Races
(March 16, 2013) A five race slate was set for a beautiful race night at Hickory Motor Speedway. There would be a night of action packed racing in store for the fans at the Legendary track.
The evening started off with the WrenchRags Renegades for a 20 lap race that was delayed due to an oil leak on the # 16 of Carroll McKinney. The delay did not hinder the # 2 of Charlie Neill in search for the win. Fending off the # 8 car, being driven by Kenneth Roberts, Neill led every lap finally pulling ahead for the checkered flag. Roberts finished in second, with the third place being taken by the # 4 Greg Austin.
Next on the evenings schedule would be the Paramount Kia Limited Late Models race with their 35 lap feature. The # 21 of Monty Cox would take the pole to start the race, Cox pulled away at the start and would lead the entire race. The first caution would be on lap 23 with contact between the #18 of Nicole Lyons and the # 9 car of Anthony Barnes in the thick of things. Lyons car would sustain some superficial damage to the nose of her car, but both were able to continue. Cox would take the win followed by the # 51 of Jeremy Pelfrey, the # 00 of Shane Lee, the # 75 of Landon Huffman and the #15 of Sheflon Clay rounding out the Top 5.
The Gold King Super Trucks Race would follow with their 35 lap event. Clint Fields started on the pole in the #16 truck, but was over took early by the # 09 of Trevor Hignutt on the first lap. Hignutt led 10 laps before Fields would regain the lead. A caution on lap 15 saw the Hignutt and Fields trucks dueling side by side for the lead. Fields was able to make a pass on the 26th lap to give him sole possession of the lead. There was a three car accident on the front stretch between Hignutt, the # 03 of Chase Campbell and the # 70 of Jason Cochran that left Hignutt unable to finish the race. Fields took the checkered flag, with the # 33 of Jeremy Birch coming in second, followed by the # 29 Jason Smith, Cochran and the # 7 Whitney Lail rounding out the Top 5.
The 100 lap Bojangles Late Model race kicked off with the # 40 of Brodie Kostecki starting at the point. Kostecki would lead early until the # 43 car of Jesse LeFevers made a move to take 2nd second from the # 25 of Matt Piercy. LeFevers was finally able to run down Kostecki and would take the lead on the 26th lap. As LeFevers extended his lead, the # 07 of Tyler Church would get by Piercy for third. With no cautions to close the gaps, they continued to battle throughout the field. Defending track champion the #12 of Austin McDaniel would be working his way through the field. At the line it would be LeFevers, Church, McDaniel, the #00 of Shane Lee and the # 97 of Keith Bumgarner rounding out the Top 5.
The last race of the evening was a 30 lap Street Stocks race, with the # 16 of Jonathon Smith on the pole. The # 64 car, driven by Marshall Sutton, quickly overtook Smith on the 1st lap of the race. Smith came fighting back for the lead on the 6th lap. The # 03 of Kevin Eby was able to overtake Sutton on the 12th lap, taking over the second spot. The # 15 David Werner had his night finish early when he sustained mechanical problems on the 16th lap, but no caution was issued. With the race nearing its conclusion the 03 car of Eby pulled closer to Smiths car on the 27th lap, but was not able to make the move. At the races conclusion we had Smith taking the win, with Eby following close behind for second, Sutton, the #33 of Mark Whitten and the # 16 of Carroll McKinney rounding out the Top 5.
